The 2011 San Angelo Piano Festival was held Friday, April 15 – Sunday, April 17, 2011 in San Angelo, Texas. Activities took place at Angelo State University, but the “Festival Finale” was once again held at the San Angelo Museum of Art. The festival featured the outstanding young string quartet, The Aeolus String Quartet. The program included interesting talks by members of the quartet about each piece and the entire program ended with a performance of the Brahms Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34 collaborating with festival director, Michael Schneider. Also included on the performance was a brilliant performance by Breanna Humphrey, a rising San Angelo Star and winner of the 2011 Gene Chartier Smith Performance Prize at the SAPF Young Musicians Competition in January 2011. She collaborated with the Aeolus Quartet performing the 3rd movement of the Vandall Concertino in C major.

In addition, master Russian teacher Professor Sophia Gilmson gave two brilliant master classes for our Young Artist Program. These classes were detailed and informative not only for the students playing, but the teachers, parents and other students in attendance.

The SAPF Young Artists Program will be held in March 2012 (the exacts dates to be announced later this fall). In addition to playing in master classes and performances, Young Artists are encouraged to help SAPF ‘behind the scenes’. This could include assisting at guest artist concerts, helping setup for the ‘Kick-Off” Party, and also helping to promote the festival with fliers and ticket sales. While not required, SAPF strongly encourages the Young Artists and their parents to take part in helping create this successful event.

Each Young Artist will perform in one master class session, attend the collaborative session, perform in the showcase recital, and will receive complimentary tickets to guest artist recitals. Young Artists are encouraged to attend all SAPF events.

The application for the 2012 Young Artist Program will be posted on the website soon. Join our email list!
